I guess I’m letting you know all this because yoga has completely changed my life. There were times over the past couple of years where I’ve sensed completely lost. I was unsure what I needed to do with my life, my direction or my route. I didn’t know if I’d ever make it. I didn’t understand if I’d find a job which i cherished or if my passion would ever redeem success. As somebody with an extremely creative mind, sometimes I have high anxiety, am easily distracted, and have a high drive for achievement. While the last can seem like a great quality to have, it can also be hindering.

It’s hard for me to quiet my mind or to not worry about the future. I crave protection, yet become quickly bored when my life is certainly too comfortable. WHILE I was really having trouble focusing or deeply concerned with my weight, profession or the future, I did yoga. I required deep breaths. I appreciated more points. I resided for your day, not for future years. I became alright.
For a few who don’t practice yoga, it’s hard to understand what sort of practice can really change your daily life. But here’s how they have profoundly changed mine:
1) It helped me through grief. My dad suddenly passed away once i was 18 years old. It was two days before I used to be supposed to leave for university and I always felt like I was never given the proper place to experience… well, everything I used to be feeling. I had been angry, sad and heart-broken. Being at college without any familiar faces to speak to was incredibly difficult therefore i stuffed all of my feelings inside. I fled the reality of losing my Dad and frantically feared reduction. But when i started practicing yoga, I could get yourself a better deal with on my feelings; it was as if Yoga got this curing power over me and became a fitness of self-compassion. Each class I thought about my Dad or any stressful circumstance and praciticed the art of allowing it to proceed. Finally I could find myself at tranquility with it.
2) It taught me self-reliance. Granted I’ve always been pretty independent, but yoga exercise really trained me how exactly to put myself first. As in, I needed to be able to acknowledge and like myself before I possibly could present that to anyone else. I wasn’t scared to vary from everybody else. I place my own body and mind first realizing that it provided me a better sense of compassion, understanding and acceptance of others.
3) It isn’t just a workout. I used to trust that Yoga exercises was simply a workout that made you really versatile. Turns out I was completely wrong; Yoga isn’t just a terrific workout but it also teaches you to focus on yourself both inside and out. Who cares if you are not flexible plenty of to climb into a certain pose? Yoga isn’t only about achieving excellence; it’s the proven fact that your attempting to accomplish better AND be better. Your making yourself better every time you step onto your mat; your practicing awareness of your body, mind and spirit (among others).
So if you’re ever in doubt or experiencing reduction, or even if you are just looking for some kind of answer, go to yoga. It will comfort you when you are in need of meaning and guidance.
