A couple weeks ago I needed the opportunity to go to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico to see the Ranch’s phenomenal environment, food, fitness, walking, spa, classes therefore much more!

It came at a time after i was feeling just a little desperate for sunshine, and turned out to be a phenomenal encounter…
Concerning the ranch
Before we get into all the delicious details, I’d like to give out a bit about Rancho La Puerta’s history. The family-owned and operated ranch was founded in 1940 by Edmond and Deborah Szekely. While I didn’t get to meet Deborah personally, I’ve heard amazing things about her spirit and zest for life! Deborah is now 93 yrs . old, still lectures on the ranch weekly and functions hard to change and inspire healthful lifestyles. If you have a minute and need to learn more in regards to the ranch and its own history, have a look at this video regarding the ranch narrated by Deborah.
Guests stay typically 4 or seven days and come from all around the globe. This is not a weight reduction resort, but rather a place to see overall health and wellness. You can make your very own schedule for the day, and perform while you please, although I would say that most guests end up working out a minimum of 1x per day. Every day is different though, and you can make it whatever you like.
While much different than my typical Mexico vacations of taking in tequila and shoving chips in my mouth area, this was still unbelievably beautiful and FUN. Our days consisted of TRX, yoga exercises, and circuit classes, hands-on cooking food demonstrations and classes, a natural farm experience, 6am sunrise hikes, and mainly vegetarian-focused meals. I LOVED IT.
Now I don’t know on the subject of you, but personally I have trouble sitting on a beach all day just lounging around. I could get it done for one hour roughly, but from then on I wish to end up being doing something active with my body or mind. My ideal holiday involves having new experiences, staying energetic and eating Great meals. The ranch provided exactly that.
Did I miss having potato chips and guac? Sure! Nevertheless, I loved the way my brain, body and soul felt at the ranch. I was inspired, well-rested, innovative, relaxed but still active. Would I do it once again? YES. Actually, I’d want to provide my Mother and Grandma to get a girl’s trip! We noticed that there were plenty of multi-generational families arriving together.
The rooms & property:
The property is over 3,000 acres, and that means you know you’ll get your steps set for the day. Everything is surrounded by a vast array of gorgeous plants, herbs, plants and trees and shrubs. It’s fundamentally like stepping onto an oasis in the middle of the desert.
Our areas were large with company, comfortable mattresses. Our villa had a fireplace, veranda, and even a little kitchen. A very important factor to note: There’s no TV or internet in the rooms, which means you really do need to be in a position to unplug. Several lounges around the house offer internet if you should check-in.
The food!
All meals are served in the dining hall, but breakfast was always by far the best. I adored the scrambled eggs with salsa, beans, cilantro & onions. They also serve corn tortillas, cinnamon oatmeal, the best muesli EVER, whole grain bread, fresh new homemade jam, hot water with ginger & lemon, tropical fruit and so much more.
Another perk: You can find always gluten free or vegan choices for those who require it. It was usually fun to see what people would create with their breakfasts. One day I made breakfast time tacos and another morning I had my much loved peanut butter toast with banana.
Lunch is the same scenario. Lots of vegetables, protein & refreshing flavors. Plus they will have chia, dietary yeast, flax seed products and a wide array of spices and herbs out. It influenced me to put even more spices and herbal products on my salads and vegetables.
The organic farm:
One evening we could actually head over to La Cocina Que Canta , the ranch’s organic farm to pick out vegetables and herbs for our cooking class meal. The herbal remedies were a number of the freshest; we picked them straight from the garden and sampled once we proceeded to go. I learned you could actually eat arugula blossoms (and that they are Great tasting). It was apparent the Ranch and their gardeners do a great job at caring for their land and soil to be able to preserve such flavorful and more fresh vegetables.
This was a genuine highlight from the trip for me personally as one of my dreams is to have my own organic garden. (In fact if you noticed via Snapchat, Tony recently has started our own indoor organic garden inside our sunroom!)
Cooking classes:
The Ranch offers wonderful hands-on cooking classes for guests through the entire week and luckily I could attend two of these! Each night the meals we created were diverse, innovative and FLAVORFUL! They were offered family design, so we each worked in teams on the recipe. The recipes themselves mostly on vegetables, legumes and sea food. Triple check!
The first night in the cooking school, Liz and I cooked probably the most delicious chipotle corn chowder with poblanos, fresh corn, potatoes and a number of spices. I’m certainly wishing to recreate it for you personally guys just in time for sweet corn season. Stay tuned!
I will mention that I left the food preparation course feeling inspired with a few new cooking techniques. Including how to create a really rich tasting veggie broth. YAS to that.
Fitness classes & hikes:
Of course you understand I hit up those fitness classes and hiking (the best workout). The first morning we continued the Professor’s hike, a 3.5 mile loop in to the mountain behind the ranch. In the event that you head to the ranch, certainly take the time to do the hikes. They’re the ideal quantity of complicated and place you in an excellent morning hours mood.
Another hike offered is the organic breakfast time hike, where you travel to the cooking college and enjoy a beautiful organic breakfast.
Private pools & Juice Pub:
There are many pools around the ranch that are both quiet and relaxing. They also have an incredible organic juice bar for when you’re looking for an afternoon find me up. Try the beet juice!
Overall, I loved the ranch and highly recommend it. The group is commonly a little old and female-based, nevertheless there were a lot of lovers and families. I’m getting excited about heading back 1 day!
